Tabita Christensen (Cami Denne)'s Story

I was abandoned as an infant on a swing. I was 3 years old when I got adopted. My birth mother was into drugs and alcohol, and my birth father is unknown. I had a closed adoption in 1989. My adopted caretakers were not trauma informed. There was some oppression, and I endured complex trauma from the lady caretaker (psychological abuse and emotional neglect).

Many adoptees endure complex trauma (secondary trauma). Being trauma informed is vital. I now advocate adoptees’ rights for justice. I believe every adoptee has an important voice for society to hear. I was a victim of the industry (bought and sold, name changed, commodified).

Now is a time more important than ever to speak our truth.
