In the summer of 1965, I was adopted by two wonderful people. They had already adopted two others, making them my siblings, and then another one came along, so they had a total of four adopted children. I’ve lived my life throughout the last 60 years knowing that I was adopted and always wondering. My parents passed away, my mom eight years ago and my dad six years ago. After that, my sister was tragically killed, and my brother had already passed away, leaving just one sibling. So I decided to do AncestryDNA and test the water and see if I could find if I have anyone out there.

On March 16, 2025, I received my DNA results, and to my surprise I found that I had four matches for over 25%. After contacting them, within four hours I found my birth mother, and within eight hours I found my birth father. Since then, I’ve met my birth mother and my birth father. I now talk to my birth mother at least three times a day, and she lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I’ve met my dad, and we talk on a monthly basis. I have three half sisters on my dad’s side and a half brother on my mom’s side.

My mom moved to Steamboat Springs after having me. She was married over 50 years, and her husband passed away the June prior to me finding her, so this could not have turned out better in my situation. I’d love to share more of my story, but it’s been a great, great blessing in my life. My mom has met all of my children and grandchildren and loves them unconditionally. Good things can happen if you make them happen, so reaching out for me was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. I’m glad I did it when I did. Who knows what would have happened if I would have waited 10 more years.
