About the Book

Born in Hackney in October 1968, Don Parker went to live with his adoptive parents at three weeks old and was legally adopted the following year. From the beginning, he carried questions that would take decades to answer — about his birth mother, his identity, and his place in the world. Growing up in Dagenham in the 1970s and 80s, Don hated school, left without a single qualification and drifted through a succession of jobs and identities. There were brushes with the law, alcohol, drugs and a desperate search for belonging that led him down some dark roads.
